Underway at 5:10 am on minimal sleep.
Route:
I-210 W to the 14 Freeway North
14N to the junction with US-395
US-395 to Lundy Lake Campground
334 miles. Arrived Lundy Lake about 1:00 pm.
Early departure was so that I could get past Bishop before the Owens Valley turned into a scorching hell.
Fuel stops in Mojave, Lone Pine and Lee Vining.
Lee Vining is just a few miles before Lundy Lake so the tank is full to begin tomorrow.
Breakfast at the Alabama Hills Cafe (my favorite eatery in Lone Pine).
The early fuel stop in Mojave was because I was impatient to check mpg. It was fortuitous because while checking over the bike I found two loose bolts (don't ask, but there's an angel sitting on MY shoulder).
Beautiful weather. Blue skies and tail winds or no wind except for some gusty crosswinds (normal on the 14) before Palmdale and before the 395 junction.
Lundy Lake CG is a government campground. Pit toilets, bear boxes, picnic tables, non-potable water, peace and quiet amid aspen trees.
Arriving early I took the opportunity to experiment with rigging my new tarp which worked quite well as a sun shade.
Good bye LA |
